Services We Provide

Second Stories Therapeutic Interventions currently offers superior mental health therapy for individuals, families, couples, and groups. We also create and present inspiring workshops for parents and professionals.

Therapists at Second Stories utilize empirically supported treatment interventions, primarily cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help clients reach their goals. CBT is a form of psychotherapy in which a client’s thoughts are examined to identify their affect on one’s feelings and behavior. Once unhelpful thoughts are recognized, the therapist can help the client reframe these thoughts. This reframing can have a positive impact on the client’s feelings and behavior. Second Stories therapists are strength based, interactive, and use treatment approaches that best fit our client’s needs.

Please contact us to inquire about our fee schedule. We currently accept the following insurances: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna, and offer a reduced rate for cash paying clients.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, also referred to as psychotherapy or counseling, a client works one-on-one with a licensed therapist. The therapist’s role is to provide the client with a safe and confidential environment for the client to express and explore their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors. In doing so, the therapist assists the client in identifying goals for treatment. Once goals have been identified, the therapist and client work together toward achieving them. Although individual therapy is one-on-one, if part of the treatment goal is to increase a client’s support system, the therapist may encourage the client to include a member of his/her current support system in their treatment by having that support person join a session (or more, if needed). Therapy can last as few as five or six sessions, or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy. Some of the most common reasons client seek therapy include:

  • Difficulty coping with major life changes or transitions
  • Childhood Trauma
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Mental Health Disorder
  • Desire for personal growth or greater self-awareness
  • Legal Trouble
  • Relationship Problems
  • Etc.

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, your therapist at Second Stories Therapeutic Interventions will always be caring, compassionate, and offer a safe place to focus on you.

Couples Therapy

At Second Stories, we teach couples to identify the things that get in the way of them having more satisfaction in their relationship by increasing their communication skills, problem solving, assertively identifying their needs, as well as understanding one another better. Our therapists work hard to remain neutral and create a welcoming environment for both parties. We know that intimate relationships can be affected by many different events including:

  • Financial Problems
  • Infidelity
  • Different sexual interests
  • Child rearing or (co) parenting conflict
  • Anger
  • Trust Issues
  • Communication Difficulties
  • Substance Abuse
  • Etc.

It is challenging to mend a relationship if one partner is reluctant to attend couples counseling, but individuals can still benefit from therapy.

Family Therapy

At Second Stories Therapeutic Interventions we help families work through their struggles, teaching coping and problem solving skills as well as better communication. Common problems addressed in the family setting include:

  • Blended Families
  • Co-Parenting
  • Divorced Families
  • Parenting issues/differences
  • Setting boundaries and structure for children
  • Familial mental health challenges or substance abuse
  • Etc.
Group Therapy

Second Stories Therapeutic Interventions also provides therapy in a group setting. The group setting is ideal for those who wish to receive support from both a licensed therapist, and their peers. While the initial appointment is conducted one-on-one with a therapist (to determine need and appropriate fit for group), all subsequent appointments take place in a group setting. All groups are led by two therapists, and contain approximately eight group members. Should a group member decide that they’d like to receive individual therapy in addition to group, that option is also available.

*All group members are strongly encouraged to keep information disclosed in session confidential. However, due to the nature of the group setting, confidentiality CANNOT be guaranteed.

Workshops

Second Stories Therapeutic Interventions is available to develop and present both parent and professional workshops in the community. If you are interested in hosting a workshop, please contact us at Contact@SecondStoriesTherapy.com to begin discussing your workshop needs and fees.
